What can you tell me about GREENLIGHT?

GREENLIGHT is a brand new program that is operating in the Northern suburbs of Hobart. GREENLIGHT is a Learner Driver Mentoring Program (LDMP) and is focussed on assisting disadvantaged learner drivers to gain their 50 hours of supervised driving with the aim of gaining their provisional license.

New licensing and legislation requires different stages of L's and 50 hoursof driving experience before sitting for the provisional license. Obtaining a drivers license has become increasingly difficult for many disadvantaged Tasmanians.

There are now a growing number of people in the community who cannot afford driving lessons or access to support required to learn the practical to drive a vehicle. This leaves them without the option of their own transport, restricting their ability to access employment , training or social opportunities, especially in areas where public transport is limited.

We provide the vehicle and match the driver with mentor drivers, who work together to achieve the 50 supervised driving hours, with the aim of the learner driver obtaining their provisional license.

We hope to create opportunities for ongoing sustainability in supporting disadvantaged learner drivers to gain the essential skills, experience and benefits from holding a drivers license.
