What can you tell me about GREENLIGHT?

GREENLIGHT is a Learner Driver Mentoring Program (LDMP) operating in the Northern suburbs of Hobart and is focused on assisting disadvantaged learner drivers to gain their 80 hours of supervised driving with the aim of gaining their provisional license.

New licensing and legislation require 80 hours of supervised driving experience before sitting for the provisional license. Obtaining a driver's license has become increasingly difficult for many disadvantaged Tasmanians.

There are a growing number of people in the community who cannot afford driving lessons or can access the support required to learn to drive a vehicle. This leaves them without the option of their own transport, restricting their ability to access employment, training or social opportunities, especially in areas where public transport is limited.

We provide the vehicle and match the learner with mentor drivers, who work together to achieve the 80 supervised driving hours, with the aim of the learner driver obtaining their provisional license.

We hope to create opportunities for ongoing sustainability within the community in supporting disadvantaged learner drivers to gain the essential skills, experience and benefits from holding a driver's license. Such as, employment, education, training, social connection and independence.
